Nancy Green
I work from an unrestricted space that transitions from one idea to the next like an unending slideshow that never repeats. I must capture my ideas in writing to ground myself and allow me to focus and experiment. The end result often doesn't reflect the original design but that's what creativity is all about, evolving.
My first love is machine embroidery of all types. I draw my own designs in an embroidery software application and stitch them onto a variety of surfaces, experimenting with combinations of texture, color, value, and shape. Monoprints and stitching has been a very recent and successful combination and I have been using these in my collages. In many of my earlier works, I utilized the negative space to stitch into and out of, creating a new dimension. I continue to experiment with this and am lately integrating my mono-printed patterns and digitized designs, layered with additional textures. My intention is to freely create and inspire others to liberate their creativity, fearing nothing.
